We receive calls weekly for horses that need homes. Because our sanctuary capacity is full due to the number of horses flooding the market and the drop in donations to rescues, we cannot take more horses here. So, whenever we can, we try to include photos and information in our monthly newsletter for these deserving horses whose lives have taken a turn for the worse.

STAR, WHITE MARE IN COLORADO, NEEDS PERMANENT HOME
Star is a beautiful 20 year old mare in Norwood, Colorado. She is about 15 hands tall. This horse is gentle and kind. She is good with just about everyone. She stands well for the ferrier and and is a very easy keeper. Years ago she fell in a pond and injured her knee. This knee was never tended to and is enlarged and tends to swell up occassionaly. She does well if she has room to move around. Star does fine with other horses and animals and would be most happy to be beautiful pasture ornament or companion.
I am willing to transport Star if we can find her a place within a few hundred miles. Thanks again for any help!

Second-to-last in the series of 22 paintings is JACKSON BOLLOCKS (Homage to Jackson Pollock) by Barbara Wright, 4 x 6 ft., acrylic on gallery wrap canvas. Vic and Jackson were finishing the piece on the floor, throwing paint around in the Long Island, NY studio. Jackson decided to fling one last loaded brush of green onto the floor canvas and purposely hit Vic in the buttocks. Vic accused him of gratuitous artistic violence and Jackson replied, "bollocks." What's a humiliated horse to do but appropriately name the painting.
THE LIGHTER SIDE - 12 MOST IMPORTANT THINGS TO KNOW IF YOU OWN A HORSE
1. To induce labor in a mare? Take a nap. 2. To cure equine constipation? Load them in a clean trailer. 3. To cure equine insomnia? Take them in a halter class. 4. To get a horse to stay very calm and laid back? Enter them in a liberty class. 5. To get a horse to wash their own feet? Clean the water trough and fill it with fresh water. 6. To get a mare to come in heat? Take her to a show. 7. To get a mare in foal the first cover? Let the wrong stallion get out of his stall. 8. To make sure that a mare has that beautiful, perfectly marked foal you always wanted? Sell her before she foals. 9. To get a show horse to set up perfect and really stretch? Get him out late at night or anytime no one is a round to see him. 10. To induce a cold snap in the weather? Clip a horse. 11. To make it rain? Mow a field of hay. 12. To make a small fortune in the horse business? Start with a large one.

HELP KINDNESS RANCH IN WY FIND HOMES FOR 20 EAST COAST RESEARCH MARES
We met Karen Straight recently at Rocky Mountain Horse Expo and were touched by her good work in helping research horses find homes once their days as test animals are over. This prompted us to create a special section in our newsletter for these beautiful horses. Some could already be lucky and may have found spots at rescues here in Colorado as a result of Karen’s work at the expo. Let’s help her out by forwarding this message to everyone you know. She will work with you on transportation if you are not located on the East Coast, so don’t let geography deter you. Please read what she wrote:
Twenty former research horses are in immediate need of placement. Scarlet is just 10 years old with much of her life yet to live and enjoy. Trudy is missing her right eye, but is one of the sweetest horses you could very hope to meet. Bailey was a champion jumper before being donated into research. These are just a few of the beautiful Thoroughbreds whose time in research has come to an end. They are in urgent need of new homes or sanctuary. As kindness Ranch cannot currently accept additional horses, we are actively working with this institution to find these horses new homes or sanctuaries. After all they have given of themselves, please help us find these horses new homes.
The vast majority of animals in research are euthanized. This research institution has turned to us in trust to find homes for these horses. We hope additional institutions will also consider adoption programs for their research animals.
The horses are between the ages of 10 and 19. Many were in the racing industry prior to being donated into research. They have participated in many nutrition and physiology studies, but they are healthy. None have been ridden during their time in research, so only advanced riders should consider testing their riding abilities.
If you are interested in adoption or you have a place at your sanctuary, please contact Karen@kindnessranch.org immediately. We will send you an application. Efforts are being made to raise funds for transport. Please apply regardless of your ability to pay for transport. There is a high probability that we will have a number of horses brought to Wyoming from the East Coast, and we will transport the horses to sanctuaries from here.
Meggan Hill McQueenie of NARHA has a web site called Donate My Horse and she encourages rescues to list their adoptables. She is tapped into the therapy horse market and often rescues who cannot be ridden for sport make good therapy horses. Visit the site and see how it works: www.donatemyhorse.com
NARHA is the acronym for National Association for Riding for the Handicapped and they are headquartered in Denver, CO.

TO DONATE: Send your check in the mail and you will receive a tax deductible receipt.
